I'm launching a new support group for veterans with mental health challenges
It's like Fight Club except without the fighting, and in the end, everyone who joins comes out a better person
I lost 15 years of my life to PTSD, anxiety, and depression, before I was ready to accept that things weren’t going to get better without professional help.
It took the next 5 before I felt ready to rejoin society, and start building a life of purpose, meaning, and fulfillment.
Fulfillment is important if you want to live a good life. Heck, even if you just want a decent life… you need to find some way to bring that into your life every day.
It doesn’t have to be hard to do, either.
Believe it or not, I am finding fulfillment in the simple act of learning how to reintegrate into society. How to live independently. How to pursue a meaningful career path. How to make new friends, and create new memories…
You don’t have to be saving lives… curing cancer… going to space… in order to find fulfillment.
You just have to do something that’s a bit of a challenge, and that’s important to you.
Maybe that hasn’t always been true, I don’t know. Maybe for all the thousands of years that we were hunter gatherers, or pre-industrial agriculturists (aka peasant farmers barely able to sustain ourselves and our famillies), maybe fulfillment was out of reach for the general population. Maybe even the ruling class didn’t feel fulfilled in their duties… I honestly don’t know.
But I believe that in today’s society (even in today’s society!) it’s easier than ever before for large segments of the population to experience real fulfillment in their daily lives and activities.
My life is so different — and so better — since I found fulfillment, and meaning, and purpose.
I want to help other people experience that for themselves. Especially people who, like me, have experienced significant trauma, and maybe right now, don’t even believe that such a thing is possible for them.
To that end, I’m excited to announce that I’ve just created a private Facebook group for veterans suffering with PTSD, depression, anxiety, or other unresolved mental health issues.
This group is a place for these veterans to come together, to build a community where they can be seen, and heard, and supported, as they learn to rebuild their life and find their own purpose and meaning, in spite of the challenges they face due to the trauma they endured in defense of our nation.
If you’re a veteran and want to be part of this community, you can join us for free here: https://www.facebook.com/groups/1462035008048469
If you’re a family member or friend of a veteran who’s going through some heavy stuff, I ask that you share that link with them, and encourage them to check us out.
Whether we have 5 members in this group, or 500 (by the way, including myself we currently have… 4…) I’m committed to building this group into a valuable resource for our country’s veterans… and I appreciate any help and support you’re willing to give.
(Speaking of… if you’re a regular subscriber or a first time reader, and you like what I’m about and what I’m trying to accomplish and would like to support me in my efforts, you can show that support by becoming a paid subscriber to this newsletter. Just enter your email and click the “subscribe” button below.)
P.S. Building this free group is just one of the things I’m doing this quarter to start sharing my message, and encouraging more people to find success in their lives… whatever that might look like for them. Stay tuned for more exciting announcements soon!
Congrats on starting the FB Group, Michael. I'm thrilled to be a part of it. It's been amazing watching and supporting you in growing your business. I'm looking forward to seeing what you do next!
